Hello! My name is Mickie. I am a wife, mother, a well travelled southerner & foodie!
I was born & raised in a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. I was fortunate enough to grow up knowing 3 of my 4 grandparents & most of their bothers & sisters, Aunts, Uncles, & Cousins. They impacted my life greatly. I was always surrounded by women (and men) that knew how to cook & cook GOOD!!
My dads parents & great-grand parents and their families were farmers. They raised & grew pretty much everything that went into their mouths.They never wasted anything. I think this came from growing up in rural areas of Spartanburg & Cherokee Counties during the depression & having around 26 brothers & sisters between them. A LOT of mouths to feed!
They all shared their recipes, handy tips & stories about their childhoods, growing up in the depression, wars, poverty etc. which I appreciated then, but especially appreciate now. They survived things that are unimaginable to people today!
Two things inspired me to start this site. A love of southern food & a desire to keep my family's recipes, & traditions going.
