There are many different types of cereal and deciding which is best for you may be difficult. Basically, there are 5 different types from oat, wheat, bran, rice or soy.

The differences are as follows:

Oat, or oatmeal, type cereal can lower blood cholesterol due to its' soluble fiber content and may reduce heart disease when combined with a low-fat diet due to the beta-glucan.

Wheat, mainly whole-wheat, type cereals are considered some of the healthiest for being very low in added sugars, if any at all, Saturated Fat, Cholesterol, Sodium and are also a good source of Dietary Fiber, Phosphorus, and a great source of Selenium.

Bran type cereals typically have no Trans Fat and little or no added sugars, high in fiber, which aids in digestion and help you feel fuller, longer.

Rice type cereals provide fast and instant energy, good bowel movement, stabilizing blood sugar levels and providing essential source of vitamin B1 to human body.

Soy type cereals contain the highest amount of protein of any grain or legume, and substantial amounts of fat, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals and a virtual drugstore of phytochemicals useful for the prevention and treatment of many chronic diseases.
