Since Fontina is a semi soft melting cheese, it can be substituted with Gruy�re, Emmental, Beaufort, Taleggio, Edam, or Gouda. The best substitute among the alternatives would be Gruyere as it is a close second to Fontina.

Matured Fontina is a hard cheese.It can be substituted by gruyere, Emental, Beauford
