The popular brand, Sugar in The Raw, is an example of turbinado sugar. It is crystalized after the first process of initial pressing. It is not as fully refined as standard granulated sugar. It is also referred as demerara sugar. It is essentially natural brown sugar. Regular brown sugar has the molasses added to regular sugar, hence dark & light. Turbinado sugar has not had the molasses extracted.
