Thanks, PJ. Made a potato curry today that required garam masala, which I didn't have on hand. I cooked without it and my curry turned out great, but I can't wait to repeat the recipe to see what it will taste like with this spice added.

Garam masala is an Indian spice blend. It is a blend of roasted ground spices that include cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, coriander and cumin. Other variations may include other spices such as black peppers, caraway seeds or anise. Garam (meaning hot or spicy) masala can be found in any Indian grocery stores or asian section of some of the high-end supermarkets. A fair substitution may be home-made spice powder made out of some or all of the above five spices.
