Buttercup has a thick green rind and sweet orange flesh that can be fibrous while butternut has a tan skin that is easily removed and a long (seed free) neck. The flesh is sweet and faintly nutty and not all all fibrous.
Does the green stripes go away when the Butternut squash is ready to pick? Also, how do I know when the Buttercup squash is ready to pick? Thank you.
