Bamboo shoots are used in cooking and prepared according to the size of the shoot. The smaller shoot is ideal for cooking whole while the fatter version of the shoots are often used by cutting off the tips and removing the outer leaves. Often Bamboo has edible seeds. Some Bambusa species are often referred to as bamboo rice. Also Bamboo leaves are often used for wrappers for dumplings. Bamboo sap that is fermented can be used to make a sweet wine or soft drinks. Empty hollows of the larger bamboo are often used to cook food. Bamboo is frequently used for cooking utensils and in making chopsticks.
