Do you mean the jarred vanilla bean paste, like the "madagascar bourbon pure vanilla bean paste" that you can purchase in high end food and kitchen stores? I use this product all the time and mine just stays in my pantry, just like my vanilla extract and other items. No need to refrigerate, IMO.

I would refrigerate them, just to make sure. The milk and butter will be much better off that way, plus, there's a good chance the cupcakes will be tastier as a result.
