Question: What Is An Amuse Bouche?

January 5, 2010
I see this word written in blogs or magazines and I'd like to know what is it and what would you consider an amuse bouche? How do you pronounce it?

An amuse-bouche is a "tasting" before the meal. It isn't an appetizer, but more specifically it is a single bite. It's sort of a preview of the chef's style and used to excite the taste buds. Literally translated it means "mouth-amuser/pleaser."
Its pronounced "uh-MYUZ-boosh"...I think

Tiny bite size canapes and this is common in France before a meal.

Amuse-bouche; [ah-mewz-BOOSH] is the French derivative for "appetizer," Usually sent out by the Chef, to tantalize the palate before the meal unfolds...A one/two bite appetizer, a freebie!
