Preserved foods use chemicals to make them last longer. One disadvantage of preserved foods is that they are not fresh. Another is that the chemicals used to preserve the foods can cause diseases such as asthma or diabetes in some people. Common preservatives add a lot of sugar or salt to foods which can cause other health issues. Preservatives and additives can also make food lose some of its nutritional value.
