1 ½

cups sifted flour

½

cup oatmeal uncooked

quick or old fashioned

1

teaspoon salt

½

cup shortening

6

[edit] Preparation

Step 1

Sift together flour and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs. Stir in oatmeal. Sprinkle water by tablespoons over mixtures; stir lightly with fork until just dampened. (If necessary, add another tablespoon cold water to make dough hold together.) Form into ball.

Step 2

Turn out on lightly floured board. Divide in half. Roll one half to form a 13" circle. Fit loosely into a 9" pie plate. Fill with desired filling. Roll out remaining dough to a 12" circle. Cut slits in crust and place over filling. Crimp edge and bake as directed in recipe.
