Basic White Bread

Ingredients

1 pkg. yeast
1 cup + 2 tbsp. warm water 105-115 degrees
1 tablespoon + 1 tsp. sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon shortening
3 1/2 cups flour

Preparation

Dissolve yeast in warm water in large bowl. Add sugar, salt, shortening and 1/2 of flour. Beat with a spoon (wooden) until batter falls.

Gradually add remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time. When you can, gather the dough into a rough lumpy ball that almost clings to the side of the bowl.
