A sloppy joe is an American dish of ground beef, onions, sweetened tomato sauce or ketchup and other seasonings, served on a hamburger bun.

  • 4 pieces Homemade burger buns, split, toasted, and buttered
  • 1 teaspoon Hot sauce
  • 100 grams American barbecue sauce
  • 2/3 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 180 grams Tomato sauce
  • to taste Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 450 grams Ground beef
  • 2 pieces Shallots, chopped
  • 1/2 piece Green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet. Add minced garlic, chopped shallots, and diced green bell pepper. Stir until fragrant and tender. Season with salt and black pepper.

Add the ground beef to the cooked vegetables. Stir and cook until the meat is no longer pink and fully cooked. Then, add tomato sauce, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce into the skillet. Stir to combine and simmer until thickened.

To serve, spoon the sloppy meat onto the toasted, buttered bun bottoms and cover with the bun tops. Serve with your favourite side dish or pickles.
