Wanka Wawa

Ingredients

2 kilograms of wheat flour
50 grams of yeast
500 grams of sugar
50 grams of salt
10 grams grams of Anis water mixed with 10 of ground cinnamon (see preparation)
Cookie decorations of your choice (e.g. sprinkles, etc)
Beaten egg for brushing on to the cookies (optional)

Preparation

1
Preparation for Anis water:
2
Boil anis in water with cinnamon, let cool slightly but keep warm
3
To make dough:
4
Mix in flour with anis water, slowly
5
Add in yeast, sugar, vegetable shortening and salt
6
Mix to make dough for about 20 minutes or until very smooth
7
Allow dough to rest, covered, for 1 hour
8
To make wawa, form shapes with the dough—be creative!
9
Decorate (or if you choose to brush with a beaten egg, then do so and then decorate)
10
Put into the oven and bake (In a brick oven, this will take approximately 20 minutes. Make sure to watch the cookies carefully as they tend to burn easily in a hot oven.)
