A chocolate chip cookie, or Toll House Cookie, is a drop cookie that originated in the United States and features chocolate chips as its distinguishing ingredient. The traditional recipe combines a dough composed of butter and both brown and white sugar with semi-sweet chocolate chips. Variations include recipes with other types of chocolate or additional ingredients, such as nuts or oatmeal.

cup butter (room temperature) |

teaspoon vanilla |

package 12 oz. chocolate chips |
Step 1 |
Mix flour with baking soda. Combine butter, the sugars and vanilla in large mixer bowl; beat until smooth and creamy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Gradually add flour mixture, then stir in chips. (Batter will be stiff.) |
Step 2 |
Drop by rounded teaspoon about 2 inches apart, onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. |

Optional 1 cup nuts can be added the same time as the chocolate chips.
