Mom's Tomato Sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon tomato paste (optional, for added flavor or to thicken)
1/2 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper (optional)
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
Brown meat in bottom of pan, then add in garlic. If you are making a meatless sauce, slightly saute the garlic in the oil.
Periodically taste-test; add salt as needed.
