Cinnamon Stick Pickles

Ingredients

15 lg. cucumbers
2 cups lime
8 1/2 qts. water
1 cup vinegar
1 bottle red food coloring
1 tablespoon alum
2 cups vinegar
2 cups water
6 cups sugar
1 pkg. red hots

Preparation

Combine lime and water. Add cucumbers and let stand 24 hours. Drain well, wash in ice water. Cover cucumbers with cold water and let stand 3 hours. Drain. Add 1 cup vinegar, food coloring, alum and enough water to cover cucumbers. Heat and simmer 2 hours. Drain.

Add all syrup ingredients and bring to a boil. Pour over cucumbers. Let stand overnight. Drain. Reheat syrup and pour over cucumbers for 3 successive mornings. On the 4th morning heat syrup and cucumbers together and pack in jars. Seal in hot water bath.
