tablespoon salt

pepper, finely chopped

teaspoons clove

onion, finely chopped

teaspoons cinnamon

cups vinegar

2

teaspoons allspice

3

tablespoons sugar

teaspoons grated nutmeg

Step 1

Peel tomatoes and slice. Put in a preserving kettle with remaining ingredients. Heat gradually to boiling-point, and cook slowly two and one-half hours.
