Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F/180 degrees C. Butter a 1.5 litre oven proof dish generously. Core and cut the pears into 8 sections lengthwise and arrange on the dish. Sift the flour, salt and baking powder. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Combine the milk and vanilla and add alternately with the sifted dry ingredients, blending well after each addition. Pour over the pears in the baking dish. Bake for 30-35 minutes (or until cake tester comes out clean). Make the toffee sauce by combining the brown sugar, condensed milk and 1/4 cup butter in a saucepan. St
