Construction Grade Gingerbread

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cloves

Preparation

In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar.

Beat in molasses and eggs.

Combine the dry ingredients; gradually add to the creamed mixture.

Divide the dough into thirds and wrap in plastic wrap.

Chill for at least 30 minutes.

Bake at 350 until edges are browned and the pieces are completely baked through.

For edible gingerbead add 2 teaspoons baking powder and 1 teaspoon baking soda to the dry ingedients.

Bake until edges are lighty browned.**

Cool completely and decorate as desired!
