cups sugar

env. unflavored gelatin

(13 oz.) cans evaporated skim milk

2

slightly beaten egg whites

beaten egg

5

cups skim milk

4

teaspoons vanilla

1

cup chopped walnuts

1

cup chopped maraschino cherries

3

tablespoons maraschino cherry juice

edit Preparation

Step 1

In a large saucepan combine sugar and gelatin. Stir in evaporated skim milk. Cook and stir over medium low heat until mixture almost boils and sugar dissolves. Remove saucepan from heat. Stir together egg whites and egg. Stir about 1 cup of the hot mixture into skim milk and vanilla. Cool. Stir walnuts, maraschino cherries and juice into the cooled mixture. Freeze the mixture in a 4 or 5 quart ice cream freezer according to the manufacturers directions. Makes about 3 quarts ice milk.
