Pickling Liquid

Ingredients

3 cups Distilled white vinegar
1 cup Water
2 1/2 cups Sugar
1/4 cup Salt
1 1/2 teaspoons Whole allspice
1 piece Cinnamon stick - (3" long)
1 1/2 teaspoons Celery seeds
1 1/2 teaspoons Mustard seeds
1 1/2 teaspoons Whole black pepper corns

Preparation

Place all of the ingredients in a nonreactive saucepan, over high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat to medium and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from the heat and cool completely. Strain the liquid and store in an airtight container.

This recipe yields about 1 quart.
