Maren's Black Forest Cake
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs (I like to separate and beat whites for a fluffier cake)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
20 cans oz of cherry pie filling (I like to use fresh, but you can use 1 of pre-made filling)
1/2 cup cherry liqueur
Pre heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 circle cake pans.
Sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt. You can use a whisk to do this if you do not have a sifter. Set aside and in a large bowl whisk together the eggs, oil, coffee and vanilla. If you chose to separate the eggs: mix in the yolks but fold in the whites last after all the liquid and dry ingredients are already throughly mixed. Stir in the sour milk to the wet ingredients.
