The Comfort of Cooking

Perry's Plate
I got the idea for these from a little kids cookbook that was given to me by a friend. The photo in the recipe was just as vividly colored as our smoothies, but the recipe called for a lot of yogurt and milk. I tried them out and ended up with very pale smoothies. Like melted ice cream. Not so pretty.

Although I made a Boozy Ginger Beer when I was in Ghana, I've been wanting to try a non-alcoholic version. This is pretty darn close to perfect- just enough brown sugar sweetness, some fruity tartness from the lime, and a whole lot of ginger kick.

Cook Like a Champion
Authentic bellinis are made with white peaches and Prosecco, but many people associate the name with any drink made up of fruit purée and sparkling wine. I decided to make both strawberry and peach bellinis for this virtual shower, but you can use almost any fruit you want. I think mangoes and blackberries would also make wonderful bases for the drink.
