Yesterday was our last day in Austin, Texas, where it is hot hot HOT, so in saying goodbye to the sizzling weather I’ve dedicated this luscious limoncello recipe to my favorite Southern city. We have had an absolute blast enjoying good friends, music and food, and can’t wait to come back soon.

I got the idea for these from a little kids cookbook that was given to me by a friend. The photo in the recipe was just as vividly colored as our smoothies, but the recipe called for a lot of yogurt and milk. I tried them out and ended up with very pale smoothies. Like melted ice cream. Not so pretty.

Although I made a Boozy Ginger Beer when I was in Ghana, I've been wanting to try a non-alcoholic version. This is pretty darn close to perfect- just enough brown sugar sweetness, some fruity tartness from the lime, and a whole lot of ginger kick.

Rather than making my usual breakfast of coffee and a cigarette I made this awesome smoothie. I’m not going to claim that it made my aching muscles feel better but it did energize me enough to get my butt out of the house and go for a quick morning jog!

Ever heard of a Banana Date Shake? If not: man, are you in for a treat!

One more sip of this Boozy Cucumber Cooler and I'm gonna turn into a sappy drunk on you. Must temper that!

What better way to impress your guests by turning an ordinary gathering into an experience? In our spring eglossy I wanted to create an innovative and fun wine tasting party so we created a wine flight spread.

Forget beer and wine, I think nothing compliments an Indian meal better than lassi. It’s a cooling, yogurt-based drink with palate cleansing properties that balance out a spicy Indian meal perfectly. You really couldn’t get a more traditional drink.

Of course our brains were also preoccupied with the concept that we'd be kid-free in a remote cabin for 30 hours with nowhere to go. Alcohol would only boost our creativity, right? So our pretty Candied Lemon Drop Martini was born.

So when you’re finally finished with this yearly burden, why not celebrate (or console yourself) with a cocktail? And what could be more appropriate than the Income Tax? Recipe: The Income Tax Cocktail

Laura Davis about the health benefits of ginger, and how you can make yourself some “good-conscience†candy and soda.

Yesterday, I had an incurable NEED for a Starbucks Frappuccino. But, since I’m trying to eat healthier lately after a little, oh, overindulgence, I decided to try to replicate it at home with some different ingredients. It turned out better than I imagined! Now I’m going to be craving these everyday!

If kumquats are out of season by the time you have a go at this, substitute them with some other fruit. If it’s summer, peaches and melons and grapes work marvelously. Oh, summer. We’ve got a ways to go before we get to you.

I could either sink further into my pit of bitterness or I could pretend that I had an influence on the changing of the seasons. For my sanity, I went with the latter approach. Out came the cocktail shaker and in went ingredients that make me think of warm weather.

While I’m sure we’ve all heard of Martini’s, “shaken, not stirred†thanks to James Bond, you may not have heard of a French Martini. A French Martini is a deliciously tart and sweet combination of fresh pineapple juice, Vodka and Chambord.

Having traveled quite a bit to Europe, I have picked up a few habits along the way (I would say that most of them have been of the good kind). One of my favorites, that I wish would become more popular here in America, is the tradition of the the digestif (or after dinner drink).

The Black Rose has the fruit and herb flavor that will help you ring in this beautiful Spring weather! The flavored syrup tastes great without vodka, if you're looking for a non-alcoholic treat.

Our Spring feast begins with a martini, shaken, not stirred. A combination of early spring rhubarb, vodka, and lemon-infused pellegrino.

We went strawberry picking again, and had another 10 lbs. of berries to use. I started making strawberry mojitos that night, and was addicted to them for a short while. I made non-acoholic versions and drank them with breakfast.

If you’re in the mood for a creamy rich cocktail, the best of the line is the flavorful Brandy Alexander. Just remember, milk doesn’t exactly make the best substitute for cream, so it’s just better to drink fewer, tastier drinks rather than attempt to count calories.

Authentic bellinis are made with white peaches and Prosecco, but many people associate the name with any drink made up of fruit purée and sparkling wine. I decided to make both strawberry and peach bellinis for this virtual shower, but you can use almost any fruit you want. I think mangoes and blackberries would also make wonderful bases for the drink.

As for our diet, the most important thing we've done is put our juicer back to work. I'm not sure why I've neglected it for so long, as having a glass of fresh juice every morning is the best possible way to start a day.

When I saw this recipe, I immediately knew I had to make it. It was a simple recipe which I happened to have all of the ingredients for, score! This slushie was exactly like any other matcha green tea slushie you'd get from a tea house!

To be honest, it’s really like a fancy mimosa. But when I say fancy, I mean it’s so, so much better. And prettier. And larger.

Oh, wait. Pinch me, because I might already be there. But I don’t want to leave anybody out, so I’m sharing this tropical smoothie so you can feel like you’re in the tropics enjoying Spring Break with me.

I had a half bag of raspberries in my freezer (still trying to figure out what I used the other half of the bag for?) and I also had a few fresh lemons that probably only had a day or two left in them. So this morning I thought I’d see what I could come up with to use these items up. I also added a little mint liqueur to this cocktail for a different twist but you could certainly leave it out or if you have fresh mint that would be even better! Unfortunately, I did not have any fresh mint on hand and dragging the kids to the store to get some just didn’t seem all that appealing to me.

They were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Deliciously fresh in flavor, well balanced, and strong! Who knew I had to travel all the way to Việt Nam to have the BEST Mai Tai of my life!

When it comes to cocktails, we are margarita people. You know it’s the weekend when you walk into our kitchen and see the small mountain of juiced lime halves on the counter.

Did I succeed in making it taste like a true cake batter shake? Tell me the truth; if I didn’t, I’ll be happy to keep tweaking the recipe. Edible experiments are always fun!

I’m no stranger to a good homemade cordial. J’adore the mix of instant and delayed gratification from the infusing process.
