5 Odd Emergency Foods for May 21 Doomsday

May 20, 2011

Chances are you've heard about the end-of-the-world May 21 doomsday prediction, and these odd emergency foods are a silly take on the standard rations we're all instructed to keep on hand in case of a disaster. From canned bacon to sandwiches with a two-year shelf life, these rations are sure to last through Judgement Day 2011 and beyond.

1. Tactical Bacon: This 9 oz. can of smoked, fully cooked bacon has a shelf life of over 10 years and contains about 18 servings of pork goodness. This emergency ration ensures even bacon addicts can make it through the May 21 doomsday.

2. Tactical Sammich: We covered the Tactical Sammich last week, but its two-year shelf life and calorie-conscious nature merits another mention. The Tactical Sammich comes in Pepperoni and Honey BBQ Beef flavors.

4. Bag of Mixed Bugs: Insects are packed with protein and are considered a delicacy in many cultures. If you simply can't decide which bug is your favorite snack, this bag of mixed bugs lets you try five: mole crickets, buffalo dung beetles, silkworms, big crickets and bamboo worms. They've been dehydrated and seasoned for your enjoyment.
