Chinese Man Guzzles Gasoline for 42 Years as a Pain Reliever

July 16, 2011

Do not, under any circumstances, try Chen Dejun's preferred method of pain relief at home; the Chinese man has been guzzling gasoline for the past 42 years to get rid of persistent pain. Dejun got started on his unusual health habit in 1969, when he first drank kerosene. The substance is a folk remedy for pain in the Shuijiang township of Chongqing, China.

Dejun became estranged from his wife and three sons due to his addiction to drinking gasoline; for the past eight years, he's lived alone in a thatched cottage. Feng Fu, a professor at the Second Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, said that the gasoline may work as an anaesthetic for Fu, but it will not cure the source of his pain.
