I got the chance to travel through Virginia wine country while attending the recent Wine Bloggers Conference held in Charlottesville. While I was excited to try the wines, I wasn't sure what to expect after the initial enthusiasm and curiosity passed. After touring the picturesque and idyllic countryside of Nelson County, however, I came away impressed. And I've cleared a spot on my wine rack for Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc from Virginia.
Yet nothing prepared me for the chance to try the 18-year-old Virginia Cabernet Sauvignon pictured above, graciously opened at Cardinal Point Winery by winemaker Tim Gorman. This wine was no interesting curiosity; it was an elegant, minty, well-aged wine. Really impressive!
