Light Tuna Canned In Water

Light tuna canned in water is canned fish with lower levels of mercury. They are usually made from skipjack tuna However, some labeled as "light tuna" are actually made of yellowfin tuna which has mercury levels almost equal to albacore tuna, one of the tuna varieties with higher mercury level.

Pregnant women, young children (under 45 pounds), and women of childbearing age are all discouraged from eating canned tuna to avoid exposure to mercury. They can substitute their seafood diet with salmon, shrimp, clams, and tilapia which have consistently low levels of mercury.
