Bottle Greening Apple
About
A large to medium sized apple. It has thick, tough, green skin, with ayellow cast blushed red on one side. The flesh is very tender and juicy. There are several varieties of Greening apples. The Bottle Greening was a chance seedling found growing near the border of New York and Vermont in the early 1800s. Work gangs in the area used to stash their bottles in the hollow trunk of the original tree, and so it was named the Bottle Tree and later the Bottle Greening.
