Yes...unless you want to eat it raw (which I have never done).

In almost all cases, when you cook it down it becomes very soft, so if it's for a pie, sauce, or jam...frozen will do just the same. I have had it in a salad with fresh that was still crunchy, which would be lost after defrosting.
