Try blogspot or wordpress.com
they both have easy formats and good directions.
You can also do some online tutorials through youtube with different venues and programs. I use I-Web for the Mac. Super easy to understand.
As Chris suggested, blogspot and WordPress are two good points to start, WordPress having an edge if you decide to move from a free blog to hosting your own.
Something to keep in mind before you start...I just started mine recently, and it was recommended to me that I open a separate e-mail account for it to cut down on spam, etc. Because I was using Blogger, I set up a new GMail account. The problem is that it didn't occur to me that my regular e-mail account is GMail, and you can't have two open at the same time, so I'm constantly having to log out of one account and into the other. Sometimes I'll be blogging and want to pull up some notes I had in an e-mail or a Google document and realize ... it's in my other account ...

Hey,
If you're looking for a few tips, I put together a few slides for a talk last year that you can read online in relation to getting started blogging.
