Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh strawberries
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon shortening or coconut oil(optional)
  • 1/4 cup sprinkles or other toppings(optional)

Instructions

1

Step 1

Wash the strawberries thoroughly under cool running water. Pat them completely dry with paper towels. Ensure no moisture remains on the strawberries, as it can cause the chocolate to seize.

2

Step 2

Chop the semi-sweet chocolate into small, uniform pieces to ensure even melting. Place the chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl.

3

Step 3

Melt the chocolate in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until smooth and fully melted. Alternatively, use a double boiler method.

4

Step 4

If using, stir in the shortening or coconut oil into the melted chocolate until fully combined and smooth. This helps thin the chocolate slightly and makes it easier to dip, giving it a glossier finish.

5

Step 5

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper. This will prevent the chocolate from sticking as it sets.

6

Step 6

Holding each strawberry by its green stem, dip it into the melted chocolate. Turn the strawberry to coat about two-thirds of the way up. Allow any excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.

7

Step 7

Gently place each chocolate-dipped strawberry onto the prepared baking sheet. If using, immediately sprinkle with desired toppings before the chocolate sets.

8

Step 8

30 minutes

Refrigerate the strawberries for at least 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely firm and set. Once set, they are ready to serve.
