  • 1.5 teaspoons SAF instant yeast
  • 2 packets active dry yeast(optional)
  • 1.25 teaspoons salt
  • 1.0 tablespoons enhancer
  • 3.25 cups white bread flour
  • 0.5 cups Quaker oats
  • 3.0 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • honey(optional)
  • white sugar(optional)
  • maple sugar(optional)
  • 2.0 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2.0 tablespoons butter(optional)
  • 1.0 beaten egg
  • 1.0 cups buttermilk
  • 0.5 cups warm water

Step 1

Place the ingredients in the bread pan in the order recommended by your machine's manufacturer. Process on the Basic cycle, Light Crust setting.

Watch dough if you bake in the machine; it will be a lid-thumper.

For oven baking: Form one large loaf (12- by 4-inch) or two smaller ones (9- by 5-inch), then slash 3 times. Let dough rise to almost double volume, covering with nonstick sprayed plastic wrap. Alternatively, divide the dough into 24 rolls and bake on a sheet or in muffin cups.

35 to 40 minutes

Bake in a 350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes until golden. Cool completely before slicing.
