- 2 1/2 cups Flour, sifted
- 2 teaspoons Baking soda
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 cup Cocoa powder
- 1 3/4 cups Granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup Shortening
- 2 Large eggs
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- 1 cup Buttermilk
- 1 cup Boiling water
Instructions
Step 1
Sift the flour and whisk together with baking soda, salt, cocoa powder, and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl.

To the dry mixture, add the shortening, large eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk. Mix until just combined and smooth.
Step 3
Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and well-incorporated.

Pour the batter into a prepared cake pan and bake until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
