  • 2 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1/4 cup nuts
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cup ground figs (from 1 lb. whole figs)
  • dates(optional)
  • raisins(optional)
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoon all-purpose flour

Step 1

Mix butter, eggs, lemon juice, brown sugar, and vanilla well in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, salt, soda, and baking powder. Add this flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes.

Step 2

Boil figs and water 5 minutes. Blend in sugar, flour, nuts, orange juice. Cook until thick. Cool.

Step 3

Roll half of the chilled dough into an 18 x 12 x 1/8 inch rectangle. Cut into 4 strips, each 3 inches wide. Put cooled filling down center of strip. Fold each side over. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
