  • 3 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 generous splash dry white wine
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped
  • 4 cups vegetable stock
  • 1 cup potatoes, diced
  • 1 cup potatoes, roughly chopped
  • 1 cup parsnips, sliced
  • 1 can Great Northern Beans, drained
  • 1/2 head cabbage, sliced
  • 2 leaves bay
  • 1 pound fresh bratwurst, cooked and cut crosswise in 1/4 inch slices
  • to taste Salt and pepper(optional)

Instructions

Step 1

In a standard stock pot, saute bacon over medium-high <a href="/XZFHRHHF">heat.</a>

Once the fat has been <a href="/FQ6PQWRS">rendered,</a> add the onion and <a href="/DRM2WPZ4">stir </a>until <a href="/3L3754DG">tender.</a>

<a href="/DRM2WPZ4">Stir </a>in the garlic, cumin, caraway <a href="/FYFCQVPR">seeds,</a> cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes.

Add a generous splash of white wine to <a href="/D8H7R37K">deglaze.</a>

<a href="/DRM2WPZ4">Stir </a>in the tomato and allow to cook for 1 to 2 minutes before pouring in the vegetable stock.

Add the potatoes, parsnips, beans and cabbage.
