Cream 2 cups sugar, 0.5 cup shortening, and 1 stick butter together. Add egg yolks and mix well.

Add 1 cup buttermilk, 2 cups flour, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Beat well. Fold in chopped pecans, angel coconut, and beaten egg whites. Pour batter into a 9x13-inch greased pan and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

For the frosting, combine 1 stick butter and 8 ounces cream cheese. Add 1 box powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 cup chopped nuts, mixing until well combined.
