  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • cups boiling water
  • cups cocoa powder
  • 2 1/4 cups cane sugar

Combine cocoa powder, cane sugar, and salt in a heavy saucepan.

Pour boiling water over the mixture and stir to combine.

Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir until the mixture is smooth.

8-12 minutes

Continue to heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is slightly thickened. Do not allow it to boil.

Remove the saucepan from the heat.

Stir in the vanilla extract.

Allow the syrup to cool completely, then transfer to a container and refrigerate.
