Ingredients

  • Fresh nutmeg, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Confectioner's sugar
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Coffee-flavored liqueur(optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Orange juice
  • 2 large Bananas, ripe
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 2 cups Light cream
  • 2 large Eggs, lightly beaten
  • 3 ounces Bittersweet chocolate, finely grated
  • 1 9-inch pie shell, unbaked

Instructions

1

Step 1

40 minutes

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place the unbaked pie shell on a cookie sheet and scatter the finely grated bittersweet chocolate into the shell. To make the custard, mix together the eggs, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 cups light cream, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Pour the custard mixture into the pastry shell and carefully place it in the oven. Bake until the custard is nearly set in the middle, about 40 minutes. Let the custard cool completely, then cover and chill.

Step 2

Right before serving, peel and slice the ripe bananas. Toss the banana slices with the orange juice and optional coffee-flavored liqueur. Arrange the banana slices evenly over the chilled custard. In a clean mixing bowl, whip the 1 cup heavy cream until soft peaks form, then sweeten it with 2 tablespoons confectioner's sugar and flavor with 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.

Step 3

Spread the whipped cream over the bananas. Dust with grated fresh nutmeg. Chill the pie until serving time. Do not let the completed pie wait long before serving.
