Honey Christmas Squares

Ingredients

1/2 cup honey
cup butter
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon lemon rind, grated
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
4 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon mace
1 teaspoon baking soda

Preparation

Mix brown sugar, honey and butter; stir over low heat until sugar is melted, but do not boil. Add lemon juice and rind; cool to room temperature.

Beat egg; add milk to the first mixture. Add flour which has been sifted with remaining ingredients. Beat well.

Roll out dough 1/8″ thick; cut into 2″ squares. Sprinkle with plain or colored granulated sugar. Bake on greased baking sheet in moderate oven, 375 degrees, for 8 to 10 minutes.
