Ingredients

  • 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 3 1/2-4 cups bread flour (maida)
  • 1 tablespoons milk (for egg glaze)
  • 1 egg (for egg glaze)
  • sesame seeds(optional)
  • poppy seeds(optional)

Instructions

1

Step 1

Pour the milk and water into a saucepan and heat to a scald.

2

Step 2

Pour the heated liquid into a large bowl and allow to cool to lukewarm.

3

Step 3

Add the oil, sugar, and salt to the bowl; mix with a wooden spoon until well blended.

4

Step 4

Add the beaten egg and 2 cups of flour; mix until smooth with a wooden spoon.

5

Step 5

10 minutes

Add the instant yeast and mix. Allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes uncovered.

6

Step 6

6-8 minutes

Slowly add more flour until a workable dough forms. Knead the dough for 6-8 minutes.

7

Step 7

Add a tablespoon of oil to a clean bowl, place the dough into the bowl, and turn it over a few times to lightly coat all sides with oil.

8

Step 8

1 hour

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and allow the dough to rest until it doubles in bulk, about 1 hour. While the dough is rising, prepare the cones.

9

Step 9

Make cones from card stock paper or newspaper. Tape the cones securely and then cover them completely with aluminum foil, ensuring no paper shows. Set them aside.

10

Step 10

5 minutes

Once the dough has risen, cut it into 8 equal pieces. Allow the dough pieces to rest for 5 minutes.

11

Step 11

Take each piece of dough and roll it into a rope.

12

Step 12

Roll the dough ropes around greased horn tubes.

13

Step 13

Place the dough-wrapped horn tubes onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush them with the egg glaze (made from 1 egg and 1 tablespoon milk).

14

Step 14

Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds or poppy seeds on top.

15

Step 15

30 minutes

Cover with plastic wrap and allow to rest for 30 minutes in a warm environment.

16

Step 16

20-22 minutes

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake the bread cones for 20-22 minutes or until golden brown.

17

Step 17

Fill the baked bread cones with your favorite filling and enjoy.
