1 tablespoon olive oil
3 cloves garlic, sliced
2 tablespoons chopped fresh ginger
1/2 tablespoon black peppercorns
1 tomato, peeled, deseeded and roughly chopped
1/2 cup white wine (can use also red)
1 1/2 cups water
1 tablespoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried red chili

For the sauce- Heat the olive oil in a medium pot.
Over medium heat, saute the onion, garlic, peppercorns and ginger for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Mix in the tomato and let simmer for 2 minutes.
Add all the rest of the ingredients, first the fluids, then the spices and mix well.
Bring to a boil and let simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally, for 25 minutes or until only thick fluid remains.
For the steaks- rub 2 steaks with olive oil and chopped garlic
Then, sear them in a very hot skillet on all sides.
Let them cook for 10 minutes more on each side over medium heat.
When the steaks are ready, place them on a plate and pour the sauce on top. Voila!

We had a long day working at home and we craved something a bit decadent for lunch. It was a matter of minutes before we realized we had two beef fillets waiting in the freezer! With no extra thought we defrosted the steaks and threw together an incredible onion and tomato sauce to go with them. The result was just perfect.
