- 1 cup tur dal
- 1 onion chopped
- 1 tomato chopped
- 1 green chilly chopped
- 1 whole red chilly
- 2 tablespoons garlic chopped
- ginger chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon red chilly powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/8 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- pinch asafoetida
- 1 tablespoon ghee or oil(optional)
- salt(optional)

Soak tur dal, then pressure cook it until soft.

Boil the dal with salt, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. After a few minutes of boiling, churn it.

Heat a pan, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, green chilly, garlic, whole red chilly, and onion, then stir.

Now add the cut tomato and red chilly powder. Stir for a few seconds, then add this tempering to the boiled dal.
