The cocktail couldn’t be easier to put together. Simply mix rum, lime juice, simple syrup, and pomegranate juice in a glass and add crushed mint leaves. Done. The presentation is gorgeous as well, and with all that red and green who says it can’t be a holiday drink?

The other day, Duc bought some Domaine de Canton, which is a ginger liqueur. I had had it before when I was in school, and it is quite the tasty liqueur if you're a fan of ginger. It's got a great strong gingery taste but the sharpness is also smoothed out by the inclusion of vanilla syrup in the ingredients.

The recipe is typical of one of the new generation Cubo-Brazilian mojitos. Or should that be Brazo-Cuban? However it's described, it's wonderfully refreshing, light and not overly-alcoholic, and absolutely delicious.

Almonds amaze me! I love that such a tiny little bite sized something is such a powerhouse of healthy nutrients, vitamins, minerals, they taste good, and help fill you up. To me they are the perfect snack. But today I wanted to try a whole new way of eating them......almond milk.

Cardamom in coffee might sound strange, but cardamom is typically added to Turkish and/or Arabic coffee. Cardamom is related to ginger, and it has a eucalyptus-like aroma and a warm flavor similar to cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger, but with lemon-citrusy undertones.

It’s basically a simple pineapple smoothie, featuring some healthy Greek yogurt, banana, and my favorite smoothie ingredient — fresh ginger! All in all a delicious, light, and wonderfully fresh tasting citrus smoothie.

I’m calling it a caramel frappé. It’s lighter than a milkshake, and as refreshing as an extra-creamy ice coffee. I use decaf coffee that is freeze-dried and dissolves in cold water, but you can use any kind of coffee.

A typical beer-garita is easily made with one can of limeade, 2 bottles of beer and a 1/2 cup of tequila. But a skinny beer-garita is made using a bit more effort...but sooo worth the reward!

I have been seeing avocado smoothies popping up here and there during my explorations of food blogs lately, and today was high-time to try one myself. I mixed up a blueberry smoothie this afternoon, because blueberries are a lower-carb fruit. Results= success. It gives a creamy, mellow taste and texture, plus plenty of heart-healthy fats and vitamins.

Upon a recent visit with the doc, daikon was suggested to aid with digestive issues I was experiencing. Armed with nature's prescription, I took to the books to find ways to incorporate the daikon, a rather mild, crispy member of the radish family, into my diet. I combined several elements of the recipes I saw, added a few of my own, and came up with a surprisingly refreshing tonic I'll be drinking every morning during lent.

"Carmen Sandiego" is a cocktail mix of ingredients pilfered from all over the globe - Poire William from Germany, cachaça from Brazil, balsamic vinegar from Italy, Cointreau from France, bitters from oranges harvested in the West Indes. Did you know that one of the oldest known Cocktails, The Sazerac, originally used Cognac? The use of Cognac ended with the Phylloxera epidemic which devastated French vineyards. The epidemic, along with the American Civil War, made cognac rather hard to come by, so many bartenders switched the Sazerac recipe to rye whiskey which was still readily available.
