Help the Food Insecure on #GivingTuesday

November 29, 2016

As the CEO of a food website I think about food all day: I constantly look at food images online, I develop recipes, I think about what dish I will make and photograph next. When I think of anyone going without a meal - especially a child - it saddens me to my core. To them, even looking at one of the images I look at each day would only remind them of their empty belly.

No one should go without; everyone deserves a satiated smile on their face (like my daughter above).

Today is #GivingTuesday, so please join me in helping those who are in need of a meal - today and throughout the year - by donating money or food to your local food bank. It doesn't take much to fill a hungry belly. Check out St. Mary's Food Bank, the world's first food bank, to find an organization near you. And, please, share this message with your family, friends, and community.

For those of you in the Seattle area, here are some places to start:

West Seattle Food Bank “is committed to providing food security and community connections to our neighbors in need. We envision a strong and connected community in which all people have access to safe and nutritious food and the essential necessities of living.”

Rainier Valley Food Bank: “our mission is simple: to provide healthy food for our hungry neighbors. our vision is a hunger free rainier valley.”

Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank’s mission is to provide basic needs to Issaquah-area community members to promote self-sufficiency

Northwest Harvest leads the fight for hungry people statewide to have access to nutritious food while respecting their dignity and promoting good health.
