This dish is better than sardines preserves, it contains a lot of important components for a healthy diet. Mackerel is a great source of protein and minerals, such as magnesium (21 percent of daily value), phosphorus (24 percent of daily value) and especially selenium (71 percent of daily value). Remembering all this, you shouldn't also forget that mackerel contains a significant number of calories due to a high protein and fat content.

  • 1/2 cup Sunflower oil
  • 2 teaspoons Pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 cups Water
  • 4 pounds Mackerel
  • Dill(optional)
  • Basil(optional)

Instructions

Step 1

Clean and wash 4 pounds of mackerel.

Cut the mackerel into mid-sized chunks. Optionally, fillet the fish or chop it with bones.

Place the fish into a clay saucepan. Season with pepper and salt, then stir. Add water and sunflower oil.

Place the saucepan on medium heat and simmer for 2 hours, until the fish is tender and soft.

Optionally, add fresh dill or basil before serving the dish.

Serve the mackerel, optionally with mashed potatoes and/or steamed vegetables.
