Making homemade herbal soda is so simple I want to encourage you all to try it. Once you master the first flavor you'll be sure to try other herbs from the garden. If you have a garden full of herbs and your trying to find a way to use them this is a great way. Many different herbs can be used to make a soda. Just think of the shock and surprise your guest might have if you served them a herbal soda!

  • club soda or seltzer water
  • 1 cup packed Lemon Basil or herb of choice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar

Step 1

Gather one cup of lemon basil leaves and stems.

Rinse the lemon basil leaves and stems in cool water and drain.

In a pot, measure one cup of water and one cup of sugar.

Bring the pot with water and sugar to a boil and then remove from heat. Let the simple syrup cool for about 20 minutes. Once cool, slightly crush the lemon basil leaves and add them to the pot of simple syrup. Stir and push the leaves down so they are submerged.

Let the lemon basil steep in the simple syrup.

After an hour, strain the lemon basil from the syrup, ensuring all herb pieces are removed to prevent mold.

Pour the lemon basil syrup into a jar with a lid. Store any leftover syrup in the refrigerator; it will keep for a couple of weeks.

To make a glass of soda, measure 2 to 4 tablespoons of lemon basil syrup into a glass filled with ice. Pour club soda or seltzer water over the ice and stir.
