Broadbeans

About

Fava beans (broadbeans)are a part of the legume family and provide a good source of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.

Fava beans are native to Asia and Northern Africa, but are widely cultivated and used in Chinese, English, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine.

Broadbeans are used when fresh and green or they can be dried, canned or frozen for later use. The hardy outer shell must be removed before cooking the beans.

Some people experience a rare allergic reaction, so fava beans should be cooked completely before serving.
