Tomato Barley Soup

- 0.75 cup barley
- 4.0 cups vegetable stock
- 2.0 cans 8 oz. tomato sauce
- 3.0 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1.0 small onion, chopped
- 3.0 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1.0 potato, diced
- 3.0 carrots, diced
- 2.0 tablespoons olive oil
- to taste salt
- to taste black pepper
- 0.5 teaspoons sugar
